Seminars, presentations, and other services: An Overview

Dr Vasquez has been teaching students at the university level (Bastyr University, Adjunct Professor of Orthopedics and Rheumatology starting in Fall of 2000) and has been lecturing to post-graduate audiences since 2001. His top-tier journal publications began in 1996 with a publication in Arthritis & Rheumatism—Official Journal of the American College of Rheumatology.

Dr Vasquez's current (July 2011) appointments and affiliations include:

  • Adjunct Faculty, The Institute for Functional Medicine
  • Affiliate Professor, University of Western States
  • Associate Professor, National University of Health Sciences
  • Director of the Medical Board of Advisors, Biotics Research Corporation

Dr Vasquez is available to speak and consult as schedules allow provided that such work does not directly conflict with the above affiliations and that it is reasonably well-aligned with Dr Vasquez's diverse interests. Seminar fees for private groups generally start at approximately $2,000 with exceptions and additions for travel and overall time and resource investment.  Consultations for professionals are available at $180 per hour as described here.

Comfortable speaking to groups that range in size from 80 to 800 and more, Dr Vasquez is often the top-ranked presenter at multi-speaker symposia, where he always delivers a wealth of clinically-relevant and applicable information. Comments from attendees from seminars presented in 2011 are given below:

  • "Thank you for taking the time to talk at the ___ this weekend. You are doing the profession a great service. As I listened and watched your presentation I often thought I would like to add that slide or information to the talks I do with my patients."
  • "Thank you for the presentation at ___ this past weekend. My horizons about what can be done to help people were greatly expanded. I am now still studying the notes from the seminar and am looking forward to more study and learning on how to correctly manage diabetes and hypertension as a chiropractor."
  • "Thank you for taking the time to provide us with some extremely valuable information this weekend. I really enjoyed the sessions for which you lectured. I appreciate the detailed note packets as well. It helps one to get exponentially more from what we are listening to when we are able to make pertinent notes during the lecture."
  • ...Finally, how do you feel about being shadowed? If our schedules match up, I would love the opportunity to see how you approach patients in person."

Payment or deposit: For seminars, presentations, consulting, traveling time, expenses, bulk books, and other services

Payments and deposits for seminars, presentations, consulting, traveling time and expenses can be made here in increments of $100.  Thus, if the payment or deposit is $1,150 then 12 purchases of $100 can be made for a total of $1200, which will then be corrected downward to $1,150 at the time of processing.

Choose "No Shipping Charge" when you are checking out so that each unit does not have a shipping surcharge added to it. If added automatically, shipping charges will be removed at time of processing.

Details and agreements are made by phone, email, and/or written contracts.  For details and clarification, please contact dralexvasquez [at] gmail.com

What is the actual time-resource investment for a 2-hour presentation?

A two-hour presentation looks easy on the delivery end, but much work and effort is invested for the delivery of seminars and presentations.  Let's look at the common example of a two-hour presentation delivered out-of-town.

  1. Discuss details by phone or email
  2. Complete the written agreement forms, scan, send by email
  3. Prepare slides--updating the presentation might only take 4 hours, while the creation of a new presentation might take 4 days or more
  4. Pack for trip
  5. Drive or fly
    1. Fly—drive to airport, park, get through security, wait for plane (assuming no flight delays), fly, get luggage, get transportation,
    2. Drive—pack vehicle, drive the distance.  Additional costs for gas, road wear, etc.
  6. Check into hotel,
  7. Find a restaurant or grocery that serves healthy food, return to hotel
  8. Review slides before presentation
  9. Deliver presentation
  10. Re-pack, check out and leave hotel
  11. Drive or fly
    1. Fly—drive to airport, park, get through security, wait for plane (assuming no flight delays), fly, get luggage, get transportation,
    2. Drive—pack vehichle, drive the distance.  Additional costs for gas, road wear, etc.
  12. Rest and return to work.

As you can see, a "2-hour presentation" on the delivery end involves much more on the preparation end.  For example, a recent 2-hour presentation in Canada required 30 hours of active engagement with the program--including preparation and travel. The main point here is that "much more energy and resources go into a presentation than one would think from simply viewing the delivery of the presentation."
